Lasik Exam: Is Laser Eye Surgery possible for me?

Each eye is different. The question "LASIK - yes or no?" has no general answer. The first step is always a thorough preliminary investigation. In the Laser Eye Care Center in Dubai Healthcare City, we commit a great deal of time to this procedure. We use advanced ultrasound equipment to measure your visual defect, the intraocular pressure, the thickness of the cornea, the surface texture of the cornea, the size of the pupil in different light conditions and the length of the eyeball.

In addition, we will test your glare sensitivity levels. We examine your whole eye clinically so as not to overlook any problematic individual aberrations. If necessary, we also conduct “aberration measurements”. With this wavefront analysis of the internal parts of the eye, we track even the most subtle changes which must be taken into account for laser eye surgery.

Following the preliminary investigation, we can tell you whether a LASIK treatment is possible, or whether, in some cases, LASEK and PRK could be a better alternative.

Within the decision taking is the option of a wavefront guided laser treatment which is even more tailored to your eye.

The directives of the German Commission for Refractive Surgery (KRC) of the professional association of ophthalmologists set these values as the limits for a laser eye treatment:

LASIK procedure:
• myopia to -10 diopters,
• farsightedness to +4 diopters
• astigmatism to -3 diopters

PRK and LASEK:
• myopia to -6 diopters,
• Not recommended for farsightedness
• astigmatism to -3 diopters.

Even a higher vision deficiency can be reliably treated today, for example, using modern lens implantations, combined with additional excimer laser treatment, as required by the individual case.  We can advise you which lenses, or which other method of treatment, is appropriate to your situation, after a precise preliminary analysis.
